With the COM22H2M74DLC 2.2" TFT display, Casio offers a high-quality QVGA display with a resolution of 320x240 pixels. The comparatively small picture diameter of the landscape display leads to very small dimensions. The display has an active display area of 44.16x33.12 mm with external dimensions of 49.96x42.95 mm and an installed depth of just 2.92 mm.
Casio’s proprietary Blanview technology gives the new display transflective properties. One substantial advantage of this technology in comparison with conventional transflective displays is the especially good light permeability of the TFT panel. Thanks to this, Blanview displays attain high levels of brightness with very low power consumption for the backlight. Moreover they can make very effective use of the ambient light. This results in outstanding daylight compatibility. These features are very interesting for portable devices with limited power resources.
The new COM22H2M74DLC display has a digital 18/24-bit RGB interface with synchronization signals, which Casio also uses for numerous other displays in the 2.2" to 5.0" size class. All displays thus equipped can be operated with the same electronics without hardware modifications. This applies not only to the electrical signals but also to the plug connectors. Backlighting is accomplished with three super bright, extra-long life white LEDs connected in series. With a current of 10 mA, this backlight delivers a typical brightness of 450 Cd/m².
For example, an LCD controller made by Japanese manufacturer Epson is highly suitable for driving the new COM22H2M74DLC display. Epson has described several examples for driving Casio displays with Epson LCD controllers in its “Display Panel Application Notes”. You will find these AppNotes available for downloading below. The aforementioned LCD controllers are also part of SE Spezial-Electronic AG’s line card.
