Epson Toyocom recently announced the development of the XP-7000 series of high-precision quartz pressure sensors. The new sensors have an architecture in which fluid pressure is transmitted directly to a pressure sensor element. This unique design makes it possible to measure a liquid pressure without an additional transmission medium.

Most pressure sensors for high-precision measurements require a pressure transmission medium, e.g., oil. The XP-7000 product series, on the other hand, uses a frequency-stabilized QMEMS tuning-fork crystal as a pressure sensor and a new type of pressure transmission architecture. In this manner, it is possible to measure pressures with a precision of ±0.05% FS. The XP-7000 series includes two models, the XP-7000MB and the XP-7001MB. The XP-7000MB has a buffer circuit for stable output signals even with long connecting cables. The XP-7001MB is designed without this buffer circuit.

The sensors of the XP-7000 series are environmentally compatible products that release neither oil nor gas. In addition, Epson Toyocom was able to reduce the volume of the new sensors by approx. 43% compared with the previous models. The new sensors are ideally suited for applications such as precise measurement of water levels in rivers and canal systems, determination of fluid pressure values in environments with stringent purity requirements and measuring pressures in industrial plants.
