White Paper on TrueFFS®

The technological development of NAND flash memories leads to an ever decreasing chip geometry (current process: 60 nm), enabling a constantly growing storage depth (MLC, x4). However, NAND flash (raw NAND flash) is known for being a rather unsafe storage medium. Only a suitable flash management turns NAND flash into a highly reliable storage medium.


The TrueFFS® flash management software by msystems enables OEMs to use the respective highest developed storage medium available, as, regardless of the physical interface, the elementary flash management is realised by an integrated controller (current product: mDOC H3). Some of the most important functions are:


• Bad Block Management
• Error Detection / Error Correction
• Wear Leveling Algorithms
• Garbage Collection
• Power Fail Algorithms


    Like paper, there is a limit to the number of times flash media can be erased

TrueFFS® improves the performance, reliability and durability of the storage medium significantly and relieves the system developers of the necessity to develop such components themselves. This means that OEM manufacturers can meet the demand of their customers for ever higher storage capacitities fast and safely.
