A few days ago, Intersil introduced the first two products of their new SAR ADC series (SAR = successive approximation register).
The ISL2671286 has a resolution of 12 Bit and a sampling rate of 20kSPS. The component offers an excellent linearity in regards of the temperature and voltage sector and it is pin compatible to the ADS1286. The ADC shows an ESD strength of up to 8kV. The differential inputs are very high-ohmic, so that failures due to leakage currents become reduced to a minimum. The input voltage range extends from rail-to-rail. The serial interface on the output side is SPI compatible.
Voltages at the reference input can be chosen between 1.25V and 5V. At 5V supply voltage the power consumption is 1.4mW at 20kSPS and 15µW in the auto power down mode. Thereby, the ISL2671286 is especially suitable for the remote sensor technology and for battery-powered systems. The component is specified for the industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C) and becomes delivered in the SOIC-8 package.
The ISL267817 has a resolution of 12 Bit and a sampling rate of 200kSPS. Its features basically correspond to the characteristics of the ISL2671286 – except for the sampling rate and the potential reference voltage, which might be in the range of 0.1V to 2.5V. The ISL267817 is pin compatible with the ADS7817. At 5V supply voltage the power consumption is 2.15mW at 200kSPS and 25µW in the auto power down mode. The ISL267817 addresses similar applications as the ISL2671286. The part is specified for the industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C) and becomes delivered in the SOIC-8 package.
